Project description (updated November 6)

Messages

  • 14.11: Eirik's last office hour today has been moved to 15-16. See updated schedule below.
  • 06.11: The project description has been updated with some minor corrections:
    • With executable in the previous version we meant a regular MATLAB file.
    • The optional data file you may submit, is supposed to be an image file, which is used by your program as an alternative to the given picture. Please make sure that the program also runs with the given image file.
    • A typo in Task 3 has been corrected: 'mean square problem' → 'least square problem'.
    • For the final task, we have clarified that the approximated curve should be smooth (C¹) everywhere except at corner points.
  • 28.10: The formulation of Task 6 in the project description has been updated.
  • 23.10: You can work in groups of up to 4 students. Form the groups and send an email with student numbers to odsater [at] math [dot] ntnu [dot] no as soon as possible.

Files

  • Task 2: T.txt and fem.txt.
  • Task 3: disCurve.txt. The three rows give the x, y and t coordinates respectively. Use initial vectors v0 = [0,1]' and v3 = [-1,2]'/√5).
  • Final part: Script to generate outline from a bitmap image file, genOutline.m (you need the MATLAB Image processing toolbox). Function for detecting corner points, CornerDet.m. Test image, batman.jpg.
  • Report: A Latex template and Some hints on how to write a short report (written by Anne Kværnø in 2013).
Here are two short reports taken from the proceeding of the ECMI 2008 conference. Use them as examples on how short papers can be written. They are here for the format, not for their contents. Example 1, Example 2.
