Q&A

Q: Why do the exercises contain MATLAB if there is no MATLAB in the exam?

A: Learning to implement, test and compare algorithms is an important part of the course, and thus a significant part of the exercises. For this we need a common programming language, and MATLAB has been chosen since it fits that purpose well, and is familiar to many students. Implementing algorithms and testing them, here using MATLAB, should also aid in the understanding of these algorithms, which is useful for the exam. You will also need to use MATLAB for the project, which counts for 30% of the grade. Finally, MATLAB questions have occured on the exam itself, so the notion that there is guaranteed to be no MATLAB in the final exam is false, though it will not be a major focal point.
