Meeting Date Remarks
1 07.09.2017 The overall impression is that the students are happy with the lectures, problem sessions, homework, and www-info so far in this course.

Some explicit suggestions: End lectures on time, move from B1 (small and crowded)?

Response: I always try to end on time, and I have checked and unfortunately there are no other available auditoriums on Gløshaugen Mondays 8-10.

2 19.10.2017 Overall: Very good lectures.

Some students think speed is "good" others think it is "fast", and some feel the problem sessions are too short.

Regarding the speed: It is true that my lectures contain a lot of materiel, but the reason is that I want explain in a good way both the mathematics and physics of the modeling problems. In particular, I have made a choice to use a lot of time also on the physics behind the models, sometimes even more than the compendium. In my experience this is the right and best way to explain this curriculum, especially for math students. If I were to lower my speed, this would mean that I would have to omit many of these explanations and possibly leave parts of the curriculum for you read for yourselves.

Advise: Check the previous notes before the next lecture, and you will be able to follow the lectures more easily.

3 24.11.2017 Good and well structured lectures throughout the semester, homework exercises good and useful and student spend time on them, info/www good in general.

Project: Many students were frustrated. Some of the frustrations: "The project was difficult", "the project description corrected/updated after start of project", "the groups needed a lot of guidence/advise - sometimes more that was provided", "unclear what is expected from the report, criteria for the evaluation, how to get a good grade", "some advisors could have been better prepared". Positive: The emphasis on 36h work seems to have limited the amount of time spent by the students. Suggestion: Organize the help sessions differently? Help question by question instead of group by group.
