18.08.2023 A proposed solution to the retake exam can be found here.
31.07.2023 The formula sheet for the retake exam is the same one used at the TMA4130/35 course in autumn 22, you can find it here.
20.07.2023 The cont exam time has been announced (August 7, see here), so we also offer a consultation time, more details here and please add yourself (nickname/firstname is enough) to have an overview how many are interested)
05.06.2023 A proposed solution to the exam can be found here.
22.05.2023 We have the third reference group meeting coming up this Wednesday afternoon and the reference group asked me to post this short questionnaire here. It would ne very nice if you find the time to participate. The deadline is Tuesday (tomorrow) before midnight (23:59).
10.05.2023 There is yet another sign error in the solutions of problem 5 (ODE code) in exercise 12. A corrected version of the solutions has been uploaded in the exercise page.
04.05.2023 There is a sign error in the solutions of the DFT problem in exercise 6. A corrected version of the solutions has been uploaded in the exercise page, (since we cannot change the version in ovsys).
17.04.2023 The notebook numerical-ode.ipynb for exercise 12 is updated due to some numerical instabilities in how the time steps \(t_n\) were computed.
17.04.2023 We have a room and time for the exam consultation. It well be on May 13, 2023, 13:00 – 17.00 (if no one is there after, say 15.30, it might also end 16.00) in VE22.
13.04.2023 We just published the formula sheet on the Exam information page, that will be included in the exam.
We will also offer an (extended) consultation time. Since I am away (for other exams actually) the week before the exam, this will take place, Saturday, May 13, we are just still looking for a good room.
11.04.2023 In the solution of exercise 9, problem 3 the Fourier transform of the initial conditions was wrong. It should be \(\mathcal F\big(\frac{1}{x^2 + 1}\big) = \sqrt{\frac{\pi}{2}} e^{-|\omega|}\). This has now been corrected.
13.03.2023 In exercise 8, problem 1 the second set of initial conditions was wrong. It should be \(f(x) = 0, \; g(x) = \pi \sin(\frac{\pi}{2}x)\) . This is now corrected.
10.03.2023 In exercise 8, we forgot to specify that problem 4 and 5 is optional. This is now corrected. Sorry for the inconvenience.
02.03.2023 We have a short questionnaire related to programming in Math 4N. Please fill that out to help us evaluate the current state in order to reflect on possible changes.
23.02.2023 There was a small typo (an n too much) in the intro of Exercise 5, Problem 5, we fixed that.
22.02.2023 The reference group kindly asks you to fill the following questionnaire before March 7, 2023, where we have our second reference group meeting.
20.02.2023 The very last part of today's Plenumsregning number 5 would have required more attention in computing the convolution. It is only if you want to double check with respect to the results we derived, but now you find the correct, updated version in the respective notes, next to the Zoom link in the "Exercise" page.
16.02.2023 The missing file \(\texttt{gibbs.ipynb}\) of Exercise 5 has been uploaded. Also, some small details in the text that could create confusion has been corrected.
13.02.2023 Regarding Plenumsregning 4, I (Alessandro) forgot to mention that the case of the use of Newton's method for systems to identify the intersections of circle-ellipsis wasn't working because of the singularity of the Jacobian matrix if the initial point is on the main coordinate axis (x=0 or y=0, see updated notes). For the other points it's fine, I added code to show the correct convergence order, that you can verify for both solutions (remember to change the exact one in the code if you switch).
02.02.2023 See the forum regarding the exercise session today (02/02/2023) at 08:15-10:15: forum.
30.01.2023 The Plenumsregnings are recorded and available on Panopto.
30.01.2023 We will move the submission time on Fridays from 16.00 to 17.00, even starting this week with Exercise 2.
This is stated on Exercises starting with the 4th, but Øvsys also has these times for Exercise 2&3.
26.01.2023 There was an error in the Gaussian quadrature weights of exercise 2 problem 1. This has now been corrected.
19.01.2023 There was an error in exercise 1 problem 2. This has now been corrected.
16.01.2023 The plenary exercise sessions will be held every Monday 1015-1200 on Zoom, starting 23.01.

03.01.2023 Welcome to the course "Mathematics 4N" in spring 2023. Lectures will start in Week 2, exercise classes one week later.
