Summary of reference group discussions
First meeting (20 September):
- Course structure appears similar to other courses. Useful mix of lectures, exercises and project.
- Lectures: Mix of blackboard and slides acceptable. Sometimes going to slow on blackboard. Try to relate theory to practice.
- Exercises: Few students show up (16-17 Tuesdays). We will try to move this. Doodle here: http://doodle.com/poll/kusfcbadgare8b5y. Exercise solutions will be merged into 1 file.
- Project: Deadline 31 oct. Must hand in this to take exam. If you have no partner, email Ioannis (ioannis.vardaxis@math.ntnu.no), and he will put you in a group.
- Book: e-book or hardcopy. Try to highlight parts that are most relevant.
- Home page: We will keep minimalistic style.
Second meeting (22 November):
- Project: covered a lot. Good to have that out 1 month ahead. It is reasonable that it counts 20 %, compared with the work load (and other courses where it counts 30 %). For next year; include a page limit, clarify delivery (zip file). You can get feedback on your project from Ioannis.
- Exercises: weekly exercises covered only a little on the important Chap 5, but then again that was a large part of the project. Exercises solution should be merged in 1 pdf file.
- Lectures: Good to repeat early in classes, for repetition. Avoid lengthy calculations on blackboard (sometimes ok, but not too often). Instead the derivations can be put online, to read after / before class. More R or MATLAB code can be put online (this was helpful before project).
