TMA4255 Applied Statistics, spring 2013

Course description

Learning outcome The objective of the course is to give the students a solid foundation for use of basic statistical methods in science and technology. In addition the students shall be capable of planning collection of data and to use statistical software for analysing data.

Topics

  • One and two sample inference with normal data
  • Simple and multiple linear regression, residual plots and selection of variables, transformation.
  • Design of experiments, 2^k experiments and fractions of these.
  • Analysis of variance.
  • Statistical process control.
  • Statistical analysis of contingency tables.
  • Nonparametric methods.

Software Lectures and exercises will include using statistical software, preferably MINITAB or R. If you are in the Indøk programme, I would suggest you use R - if you plan to use statistics in your master thesis.
