TMA4225 Foundations of analysis: Fall term 2014

Course information

The textbook will be McDonald & Weiss: A Course in Real Analysis, second edition. The lectures are given in English.

The syllabus (“pensumliste”) consists of Chapters 1–6 and 8 of the textbook, plus the notes on coin tossing space and the Littlewood principles. The core material is mostly found in Chapters 3–6 and 8, plus the Littlewood note. Chapter 1 is mostly background, except § 1.4, which belongs to the core. In Chapter 2, § 2.5 and § 2.6 must be considered core material, as does the bit on superior and inferior limits and their basic properties. I expect only a cursory knowledge of the construction of the probability measure on coin tossing space.
