16.12.2022 Here is today's exam, and solution proposal.
16.12.2022 A solution proposal for today's exam will be published here around 20:30 today.
08.12.2022 Note that last year's exam was a home exam. This year you can only bring a simple calculator as help, no written or printed information. Also, last year's exam was somewhat more difficult than usual due to these circumstances.
24.11.2022 Thank you so much for your project reports! Nine of them (anonymously) can be found on the project page.
22.11.2022 To be clear, there are no more lectures in this course.
21.11.2022 Help sessions before the exam. Assistant Louis and I will be present for answering questions before the exam scheduled Des.16. The help sessions take place in S3 from 1000 to 1300 on Wednesday Des.14 and Thursday Des.15. Louis and I are also available for drop in questions. We both have offices in Sentralbygg 2, Louis in room 1256, me in room 1050.
21.11.2022 Dear students! The Faculty for Information Technology and Electrical Engineering (IE) is sending out a questionnarie-based student evaluation in all courses at IE. Please help us to improve our teaching by answering this survey in the course TMA4195 Mathematical Modelling. The survey closes on 11 December. (You answer anonymously, but need to log in with Feide for safety reasons.)
07.11.2022 For help sessions after today, see project page.
02.11.2022 Project deadline is 3 weeks from today, November 23.
02.11.2022 You can pose questions about the project on the forum page. The editor supports Latex. Please be a little patient while waiting for feedback.
31.10.2022 Please send any comments or suggestions to reference group member Robin. See Reference group in the menu.
30.10.2022 The project description has been updated on the project page.
28.10.2022 The project description has been published on the Project page. I'll publish the groups when a small uncertainty has been clarified.
28.10.2022 For your information: ECMI Modelling week in Sezeged, Hungary, July 9-16, is an international event where students work in groups modelling practical problems. NTNU can (full-) finance participation for up to 3 FysMat students. See here for last year's event. Please contact Markus Grasmair for more information.
24.10.2022 The project page has been updated, see menu on the left.
11.10.2022 PROJECT. The project, lasting the last 3 weeks of the course counts for 25% of the final grade, but is not mandatory. However, if you do not participate the best final total score possible is 75% (a fairly good C). For your information, in the 2 previous years the rules for participation were different due to corona. You can sign up by sending Dag a mail. The number of students in each group is somewhat flexible, say 4 to 6 persons. You can either sign up alone and you will be put in a group, or you can sign up together with others, and you will be put in the same group.
07.10.2022 Videos of this week's lectures and next week can be found on the Black Board page for this course. Go to the Panopto option on the lefthand menu of the course's main page. You will find the videos there (at least I can).
29.09.2022 The reference group requested that the lectures Mondays 03.10 and 10.10 and Fridays 07.10 and 14.10 should be recorded due to the Norwegian "Autum vaction" for kids in primary and secondary school, and some students may be off campus due to this vacation. This will be done. Details for how to watch will be announced here.
19.09.2022 Assistant Louis is abroad Wednesday September 28, and there will be no exercise class that day. You can save your questions to the following Wednesday, or you are very welcome to ask me in the lecture pauses or visit me in the office hour for the course (room 1050, Sentalbygg 2, Mondays 1015-1100).
09.09.2022 I will meet with the reference group next Friday. Please give feedback on the lectures, exercises, notes, or whatever. Constructive suggestions and comments , positive or negative, are welcomed!
29.08.2022 The Compendium for the course can be found under Learning materials on the course's Blackboard page. The reason is that this Wiki home page is public, while Blackboard is only available for students registered for the course. Note that it is my written notes that constitute the final curriculum for the course, and that the compendium contains a lot of material not covered in the lectures (and thus not part of the curriculum).
23.08.2022 New time for lecture next week. I am going to a conference Friday next week, and it seems hard to find a substitute. So next week the exercise class Wednesday and the lecture on Friday swap. Therefore, next week there are lectures Monday as usual and on Wednesday August 31 at 0815 in EL2. Exercise class next week is then Friday 0815-1000 in EL2.
22.08.2022 New notes are published each week. I'll try to have notes ready some time during Wednesday such that students who missed lectures on Monday can follow class on Friday. The lectured stuff may not be identical to what was lectured last year, although quite similar. There could be other examples for instance. Note that the these notes form the curriculum for the course together with the given exercises.
15.08.2022 Welcome to Mathematical Modelling, fall 2022. The lectures are given in English. First lecture is August 22. 0815 in auditorium S1. Welcome!
