MESSAGES FOR PARALLEL 2
Date | Subject | Message |
---|---|---|
14.11 | Next week: exam 2015 Aug. | Next week (week47) we will solve the exam from 2015, Aug. Please first solve by yourself before the lectues. |
11.11. | Group 4 practice lecture November 11th | The students of group 4 can attend the practice lectures together with group 1,2 or 3 |
24.10 | Clarifying a question | Today after the lecture, one person asked "Do we get proofs in the exam?". I took it as in "If some proofs will be given as an exam aid, like the formula sheet." And I said no, but if it was meant "If you will be asked to prove something in exam questions", you may need to prove something (please see previous exams). |
24.10 | Lecture 20 and 21 | Lecture 20 (28th. Oct) and 21 (31st) will be given by Espen (usual room and time of this parallel). |
24.10 | Formula sheet | It was asked during the reference group meeting; This formula sheet is given in the exam. |
21.10 | Second RG meeting | For feedback from the second reference group meeting see below |
18.10 | Typo | In the last example of Lecture 17, I made a mistake; we have different values for line integrals over two different curves. See the updated notes. |
23.09 | First RG meeting | We got very constructive feedback from the first reference group meeting. See below |
14.09 | First RG meeting | The first reference group meeting is planned on 23.09, Friday. We appreciate any constructive feedback. |
01.09 | Reference Group | Reference group is assigned. See below. |
29.08 | Typo | There was a typo in the last example, there should be square in the denominator (see the note "Lect 3"). |
24.08 | Notes and slides | Notes and slides are uploaded in this page (see below). |
This parallel is taught in English.

Meeting 1:
Feedback:
- Recap of previous lectures is good;
- lectures are well prepared;
- the lecturer should spend more time on writing, to write more clearly (often some specific letters are difficult to read);
- because of long waiting time in some exercise sessions, and lack of problem solving sessions, it is difficult to start solving exercises (don't know where/how to start);
- rather than detailed proofs of theorems, concrete examples of explaining why it matters, would be appreciated;
- to engage everyone, asking questions may help.
Meeting 2:
Feedback:
- Number of exercise problems seems to be appropriate for understanding the course and being prepared for the exam;
- handwriting is fine (students also got used to it);
- after the beginning of the complex analysis part, it got easier to start solving exercises;
- since the exam is on 28th Nov, it would be helpful to publish all the remaining exercises soon;
- clarify what is allowed in the exam (formula sheet).
Meeting 3:
Feedback:
- Throughout the semester, uploading the notes has been very useful.
- As a whole course, Math 4K is (perceived as) a difficult course. Especially the PDE part.
- Complex Fourier series and PDEs could have been explained, by spending more time in the lecture.
- Otherwise students seemed happy with the lecture.
