Course description, time table and examniation information ca be found here for ST2302 and here for MA8002. These two courses will be be lectured together, but will have separated oral exams with some differences in the curriculum. More information on this will be given later.

  • 09.05: NB: About course code. Those of you from biology who wants this course as a part of their PhD, must sign up for MA8002 Applied Biomodelling for PhD Students and not ST2302 Stochastic Population Models. ST2302 counts as a lower level course for those with more statistical / mathematical background. Now, all students have signed up for ST2302 so I suspect that some have chosen the wrong one.
  • 02.04: The oral exam will be held Thursday 9. June. You will be contacted later with the details on time and place.There will also be arranged some lectures & questions opportunities before the exam, on Friday 3. June and Wednesday 8. June 10-12 in the NINA-building. If it is anything particular you want to go through these two days, please send me an e-mail in advance so that I can do some preparations.
  • 10.03: I have now set up a suggestion for the lecture plan for the weeks after Easter (see below). If anyone has major problems with this plan, please send me a message.
  • While at it, we should also try to find a date for the exam - could all of you send me an e-mail with possible, and impossible, dates?
  • NB: Note the change in time of lectures next Wednesday (3. Feb) - they will be taught from 08:15 to 10, instead of 10-12, due to a meeting-collision.
  • Lecture plan as agreed on first meeting; see bottom of page. There will be no lecture on Wednesday 13. januar. We meet instead for next lecture Thursday 14. January 08:15 - 10:00 in the NINA building (Høgskoleringen 9, below the Realfagsbygg, towards Lerkendal). I will meet you in the reception.
  • More on Lecture plan: Note that we sometimes have lectures at Thursdays instead of Wednesdays. I have not found rooms for all lectures yet, but we may try to do most of them in the NINA-building.
  • IMPORTANT: This course usually attracts students from several departments, so the time table will often collide with other courses. We will therefore meet at the first scheduled lecture, Monday 11 January, 10:15, R51 for practical planning of the teaching hours. If it impossible for you to come, please send me an e-mail with hours that are impossible for you. For my part, it is best if we can arrange the lectures in 3-4 intensive periods.
  • Tentaive lecture hours: Monday 10:15-12:00 R51, and Wednesday 10:15-12:00 K28

About the course

The course deals with: exponential growth, demographic stochasticity, environmental stochasticity, density regulation, diffusion processes, age structured populations, harvesting models and viability analyses. Stochastic modeling is essential in all these subjects.

Background corresponding to ST1101 (Probability and Statistics) or ST0101 and ST0201, and MA0001 and MA0002.

Exam

There will be an oral examination Thursday 9. June. You will be contacted later with details on time and place.

The oral examination will be organized as outlined in this instruction for Spring 2016.

There will also be arranged some lectures & questions opportunities before the exam Friday 3. June and Wednesday 8. June 10-12 in the NINA-building.

There will not be arranged ordinary exercise hours, but there are several excersies in the compendium you are encouraged to try to solve. Some of these will also be discussed in the lectures.
