Short description

This course is a continuation of the course TMA4150 Algebra. The main topic is field extensions: basic properties, the connections with group theory, Galois groups. Some applications will be discussed, for example the insolvability of general 5th degree equations by radicals.

Knowledge assumed

You should be familiar with basic notions of algebra (such as definitions of groups, rings, fields etc.). A full course on Ring theory is not required since we will cover the necessary material during the course.
