First meeting (07th September, 15:00):
Lecture:
first lecture giving an overview of the whole curriculum based on examples was very nice.
students are very happy with the lectures. The mix between document camera, slides and blackboard is good
lecture notes are fine, only headlines might be made more clear
examples are very nice, e.g. interrail example to motivate Markov chains
the speed of the lecture is also fine. It should only be made sure that there is also enough time for more difficult topics.
notes shown on the document camera should be visible a bit longer
it would be good to repeat questions made by a student during the lecture before answering it
students appreciate to get time in lecture to work on small examples in pairs
office hours should be announced
Exercises:
45 minutes are too short
sometimes not enough time to think about a problem
students would appreciate to see more examples on the blackboard instead of sitting there and working on them alone.
put solution sketch out on Monday not Tuesday
Second meeting (06th October, 16:15):
Lecture:
students are very happy with the course
good usage of document camera (maybe careful to move paper up in time)
small exercises in class are appreciated
students want to know due date of the project
Exercises:
Third meeting (18th November, 11:15):
Lectures:
Exercises and project:
questions regarding the project were well answered
students felt that they got sufficient help in the project
students learned a lot during the project
maybe there should be more obligatory projects (2 or 3) counting to a higher degree to the final mark
possibly extend exercise sessions in particular during the project time
try to avoid time conflict with projects in other courses
give an extended introduction to R, possibly as optional lecture, at the beginning of the course
add R-code examples in exercise session
