Accessing the computer system from outside

Use the information on this page if you're using a laptop, your home computer or similar, and want to

  • use the terminal/shell as from the office
  • opening a Windows Terminal
  • accessing files

Webmail

To check your email online, go to http://www.math.ntnu.no/webmail/.

In order to configure your email client, please see Configuring your email client.

Shell access

Open a terminal, and type

  ssh login.math.ntnu.no

You will be asked for your username and password.

Windows Terminal

Start up your terminal server client. In Ubutntu, click Applications, Internet and click Terminal Server Client. Make sure the protocol is set to RDB, and fill in either of the following under “Computer”:

  • heine.math.ntnu.no
  • borel.math.ntnu.no

Provide your username and password as well, and click “Connect”.

If you need to do this often, you can save your configuration by clicking Save as.

Accessing files

(Without VPN) Open your file manager and navigate to

sftp://login.math.ntnu.no/home/anne/username

(With VPN) Enable the VPN connection, and connect to this server

mamba.math.ntnu.no/<username>

In Ubuntu, click Places, and then “Connect to server”. Use “Windows share” as Service type, and connect. You might have to enter your username and password. If asked for a workgroup, just accept the default.
