Computational Thinking in Mathematics project kick-off event

Trondheim, 17-18 April 2024

The event is a part of Erasmus+ Strategic Partnership between NTNU (Trondheim/Gjøvik/Ålesund), DTU (Copenhagen), Lund University, RUB (Bochum), UiO (Oslo) and University of Aalborg. The partnership aims at developing of Open Educational Resources that would ease introducing of computational thinking while teaching mathematics.

The seminar on 17.4 aims to bring together educators, researchers and practitioners with an interest in elements of computational thinking in mathematics and sciences. The core student group is 1st year engineering and mathematics students, as well as "the year before" and "the year after". Project partners and collaborators will present state-of-the-art of integration between mathematics and elements of computational thinking at their respective institutions. Such issues as student's preliminary knowledge, curriculum, assessment, coordination with another courses, and examples of excellent student achievements will be shown.

One major interest area for the event is student project work, where they have to collaborate and get some progress on solving of larger and (hopefully) more real-life related problems. Such problems are usually too large to get any substantial progress with just pen and paper and as such match nicely with an extensive use of programming.

The event will be hybrid, with majority of participants being offline, but with Zoom-streaming. Besides the presentations, the workshop will offer plenty of opportunity for discussion and collaboration.

The second day 18.4 will be dedicated to internal project work (9.00-12.00). The project is open to new collaborators from partner institutions, and due to location NTNU employees are especially welcome.
